SAFETY AND QUALITY COMMITMENT
Safety is Our Top Priority. We train our employees, design our facilities and structure compensation to promote safety. It works – we have a stellar safety record, and our commitment to safety has been recognized at the local, state and national level.
We Strive to Set The Standard for Quality in Our Industry. Our product specifications, internal processes and customer feedback are established with a goal of achieving zero defects and a commitment to continuous improvement.
COMMITMENT TO SAFETY
Safety consciousness is part of the culture at Benjamin Steel. All locations are staffed with a Safety Team focused on compliance and accident prevention. In addition to weekly safety meetings in our warehouses, each month features a ‘Safety Day’ where office-related safety tips are shared with office employees. Our Gainsharing program even includes a goal related to promoting safe behaviors.
We are proud of our safety program and the recognition it has received. In 1999, we received the Governor’s Excellence in Worker’s Compensation Award. We have been recognized several times over the past decade by our local Safety Councils and by the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation for our safety efforts and achievements.
We are proud to participate in OSHA’s Safety & Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP) for small business employers. Achieving SHARP status designates us as a model for workplace safety and health among our peers. Our Lima facility achieved SHARP status for the second time in 2018. Our Springfield facility is finishing the review process to achieve SHARP status for the third time, and our Mansfield location is undergoing their first SHARP review process.
COMMITMENT TO QUALITY
We strive to consistently meet every customer’s needs and expectations in a quality manner that rises above our industry standard.
The most widely accepted quality standards for our industry are the ISO 9001 standards, developed by the International Organization for Standardization. Therefore, we have developed and maintain a Quality Management System and Manual modeled on the ISO 9001:2000 standards, recognizing that we are also governed by the applicable specifications of the mills which supply our products.
We continuously work to improve this system and the associated documentation, including enhancements to meet the new 9001:2008 standards.
